Real-life Stories

The following is typical of the letters we receive each week from hopeful applicants seeking a grant. We may receive a large number of applications each month and are able to assist only so many families. Each need is looked at individually and grants are awarded based on the overall situation.

Letter From A Hopeful Family

To whom it may concern,

We are applying for financial assistance to aid in adopting a child internationally. We have been unsuccessful in attempts to have a second child, and insurance will no longer approve further procedures. We realize how truly blessed we are to have our son, and we are very thankful for that. We have discussed adoption options for many years, even before Tyler was born. This time we are committed to completing our inquiries. Our family remains somehow, incomplete, despite being very happy and content. We realize that there is a child out there who belongs with us and we are determined to find him/her.

We would be considered a typical "middle class family". Living our lives from paycheck to paycheck, hoping unexpected costs won't occur, trying to balance our cost of living with what we make. Our home and lifestyle is not extravagant, we drive vehicles which each have over 150,000 miles, but no car payment!! And we cross our fingers that they will last "just one more year". The reality is, if we waited to be able to "afford" adopting our child, it would never happen. On the other hand, we believe that if this is meant to be, everything will fall into place and take care of itself. Still, the costs of adopting a child remains high and we would like to reduce our out of pocket expenses as much as we can. So we have submitted our application to you. Please know that this was not an easy decision to make, (soliciting financial assistance), for we would much rather be on the giving end instead of receiving end. Whatever decision made, we would like you to know that we think the service you are providing is a wonderful thing and we hope that you have been blessed in many ways. Thank you again.
