Adoption is the gift of a lifetime. It brings new life to parentless
children; new hope to the childless, and joy to families that extends
through generations. The Gift of Adoption Fund turns the dream
of adoption into reality for those who could not otherwise afford
to adopt.
It is a somber fact that many parents and children who
desperately desire this gift never receive it. There are so very
many children
waiting – for parents to embrace and a place to call home.
Yet, adoptive parents too are waiting. There are families who would
open their arms and homes to a child in a heartbeat but are unable
to do so simply because of the financial costs involved in the
process. Legal fees, home-study costs, agency fees, travel expenses
and other costs can quickly become an insurmountable barrier toward
adoption for many people. There exist would-be parents who take
out second mortgages, secure loans, tap into retirement sources
or savings and even rely on the kindness of friends and extended
family only to fall short of the fees required to complete an adoption.
Parentless children should not be denied a loving and nurturing
family because of the steep, initial costs required to bring them
home.
It is not right. It should not be this way. Some of the most
powerful improvements in human history have been effected by those
who have
had the courage to say these words, and then act upon them. With
this sense of purpose and determination, Gene
and Lucy Wyka founded
the Gift of Adoption Fund in 1996.
